Oh my god Square-Enix what the fuck.
"You are not Aya. You are Eve, Aya's adoptive daughter surrogate from PE2. When Kyle and Aya's wedding is attacked by SWAT types, Eve does an overdive jump into Aya's body, "shattering her soul". Eve forgets all this and just kinda goes along with people calling her Aya even though now her badass persona is replaced with that of a fucking 14 year old girl. This shattering creates the bad guys, and we find out the whole thing is set up by her boss in this game, so that they can rule the world through evolution or some crap. So Eve goes back in time to when the shattering began and Aya has Eve kill her willfully so there's no shattering and no evil monsters and everything is hunky dory.
So yeah, Aya Brea is dead. You're literally a teenage girl pretending to be her, which is why she gasps at violence and generally behaves like a little wilting flower instead of the hardass independent woman we know."
REALLY glad I found that out before I spent money on this game.
