I took my car in for some work today. Nothing big really: change the oil and oil filter, and check the battery, alternator, brakes and brake fluids ( Read more... )

"I forgot to unplug the car."

Such a Canadianesque post!

Reminds me of living in Lethbridge, Alberta, and going out to the university where the parking lot has all these little posts next to the spots, so people can plug their cars in when it gets to be minus 30.

Those posts are indeed handy. My apartment building has one for each apartment's parking spot, with each parking spot's plug controlled by a light switch in the apartment. Never seen them at the university though, or in just about any public parking lot for that matter.

Might be handy if I ever remembered to plug in the car when I come home.

Is this, like, some sort of rechargable electric green car or something?

Basically a heater in a car's engine block (hence the name) that you can plug into any standard electrical outlet, and is used to keep the engine area warm enough to start. A must have if you drive during the night/mornings during the winter.

Actually, I don't think you can buy a car around here without one. :)

Just make sure to unplug the car before you leave. It isn't uncommon for someone to hear the twang as the extension cord from the car to the plug pops out and whips back, or even to drive around with the extension cord dangling under the car. :P
