[at some point, when they don't really seem parallel:]

[not time because there is no time. but check out the human barnacle she's found! pale and black-haired and very tiny, attached to shirley's leg with a death grip. shirley is beginning to not mind her clinging; it helps the girl hasn't really gotten in her way, though.]

[a glance at the girl changes the look in his eyes as he raises them back to Shirley; a nice infusion of touched amusement into the increasing tiredness they've held 'til now.]

I do for you. What is it?

[he gets a shy look from the girl, and she presses a cheek against shirley's thigh, turning her head away from him.]

People are beginning to be sent next door. [those places won't be empty for long.] Could you protect the buildings...?

[a slow nod. He's dipping into energy and magical reserves he wouldn't have in other situations, but this isn't his first war. -and in this universe, Moony is on his side.

However, he won't put people at unnecessary risk-not from him.]

I'll call Tonks and Hermione. Between the three of us we can do it quickly enough.

[the utterly unnecessary question; but force of habit from living with Io: the more one knows they don't apply, they may still be worth asking.] How are you doing?

[an elegant shrug, one he is probably familiar with enough by now. a nonverbal fine, even if she is feeling the weight of this war now.]

You mentioned portkeys.

[...this is like a day late.]

[he nods at once, no transition between concern and business. Takes his forge from his pocket to call up six images and show them to her. They're of extraordinarily mundane-looking objects, two of which are in the clinic. He glances at the child and speaks quietly to Shirley so no one else can hear,]

These are portkeys. Objects that have been turned into teleportation devices. Since I've made apparation-unaided teleportation, blocked by the spells on the building, I, at least, am unable to teleport in or out without leaving the area of the building. I don't know if that will affect your powers or not. Either way, these three objects link the clinic, the dojo, and Patrol Headquarters, should anyone need to get immediately from one to the other. Just pick it up and you'll be in the next location. This- [one object, in a room at the clinic] goes to the dojo. That [another object in a different room] to HQ.

So far I've told only you and Arthur. Tonks knows because she helped set them up. You can tell whomever you see fit.

[really, with that death grip on shirley, it's not like the girl is much to worry about. besides, possibly cutting off circulation in the leg. but shirley does place a hand at the nape of the girl's neck while she listens. and then, she is quiet for several moments, thoughtful.]

I see.

[deciding that: her own power is probably affected. this doesn't matter because she can't leave elior unattended. and the people she may tell, some of whom are dende and miranda - but it wouldn't really be telling so much as forcibly getting them out of danger. it's only vaguely she thinks of winglies, though.]

[as he puts the forge back in his pocket, he adds with that uncanny all-but mindreading ability of his,] Nice touch, by the way… the dragon? Anything I should know about…?

[she is developing this habit of kanye shrugging, seriously, but it's half-formed when she shrugs again. she doesn't really think there is of "need to know:" it's a dragon, man.]

Is there something you would like to know?

Everything. But unless there's anything I should do or avoid doing in connection with it, it can wait.

[he hefts his wand with a faint smile. Unless she has anything to add, he'll head out to expand the defenses]

His magic is limited, but I do not anticipate a strain by the end of this.

[she would like to use his magic to heal several people, but what good would that do if the hellcats attack and a dragon isn't there to obliterate them? fighters hands get tied, and more people get hurt. this entire thing blows, man.]
