[ Clare doesn't know Arthur very well. In fact, they seem to move in entirely separate circles, what's with that? But despite this, and her aversion to parties, not to mention he reluctance to go near the Patrol Headquarters, she's ducked (haha) in. It's easy to mistake her for a wallflower, nursing a drink slowly, observing the crowd silently, though she knows some people present. Mostly she's just standing in readiness for when Helen needs a hand getting home. ]

[ according to shirley, you don't have to know someone very well to put your boobs on them. but between the first time they (re)met and the few conversations she has listened to between herself and arthur, it's more like he has a sign on his back that says, "troll me." she can't help it. clare, though, has the opposite sort of air to her.

and that's exactly why shirley sits nearby. it's a familiar presence but relaxing. she sips from her glass, one of helen's boozes. a glance for clare but that's all, like she might be trying to remember something. ]

What are you drinking?

[ genuinely curious; Clare has a strange fascination with beverages and their link to social interaction. also, she can smell from here that it's alcoholic, and that interests her too, because the woman with the bread and the ducks did not strike her as the type to party or to drown her sorrows. but the third reason is because she could do with a drink herself and this was the tipping point past temptation. ]

[ this is about where the meta jokes shirley is a lush, but it's one of those things she never thought of before, really. it was good, though, to addle a brain that knows everything, then. now, there is something enjoyable about the burn that reminds her of lost times. ]

Something one of your sisters brought.

[ she motions toward helen, where...ever said claymore might be. ]

Ah, of course. Helen enjoys drinking.

[ so does Clare actually, though in moderation, of course. that said, compared to Helen, most imbibing could be considered moderate. but the conversation inspires her to get a drink of her own. she comes back with it, and drinks it with the tiniest of sips, no more than wetting her tongue with the warming liquid. ]
