I admit to having been reluctant in asking of this, but it truly is... disconcerting, and I am not at all certain whether this is normal in this world. But it is better to obtain as much information as possible, in situations where one can do so.

It is a form of shapeshifting, only it is a bit more... complicated than that. And there are rules, such as how long you can remain in a form before becoming permanently trapped. But these rules seem to have been twisted a bit, I suppose by this Mist that I have heard others speak of.

Do you have an ability? Have you noticed any changes?

Complicated in that it is a technologically-developed and transferred ability, and as such, has several parameters for functionality. You need to touch a biological entity in order to acquire its form, to be able to take on its form with adequate concentration. And you must do so from your original form, you cannot acquire creatures from an assumed form. You can only remain in an assumed form for two hours at a time before you will be unable to return to your true form. There are other rules, but these are the primary ones.

Yet, I have been in a form that is technically not my 'true' form for longer than this permitted duration of time, and even so have been able to revert to my original form. [Nevermind that he feels as though human ought to qualify, on a baser emotional level. But that is not how this is supposed to work.]

I assume your ability to change works in a different way?

It's because of magic, that I change. It used to be only for an hour, at midnight.

But I hear the Mist does things.
