[ His eyes flicker open, and at first he can see nothing.
The world around him is black and shapeless no matter how he tilts his head. He can feel himself blink, and feel the pillow beneath his head shift as he moves, but it takes several moments before the obscure becomes clear and he can begin to make out the pattern on the old ceiling overhead.
Itachi inhales quietly, and exhales the same way. He feels relief spread all throughout him, as intoxicating as any drug.
I'm not blind... not yet, he thinks to himself.
He allows his chest to rise and fall a few more times, savoring the air, however medicated it tastes on the tip of his tongue. He even welcomes the feeling of heavy limbs, because at least he can feel them now, move them... move at all.
There is little Itachi can recall about the time before he fell unconscious. It had been late, he had been at the dojo, and that is all he knows. How much time has passed in between, who found him, who took care of him, those things are yet a mystery. The one thing he is certain of is the identity of someone's blurred form standing directly next to his bed. It's more than the array of untamed black hair atop the figure's head that gives him away, however. It's more than the narrow set of dark, focused eyes, as well. It's a presence he knows... one he will never forget so long as he lives. ]
Sasuke... [ His voice is weak, but the name comes out clearly. ] ...How long was I unconscious?
[ Itachi wastes no time in getting to the point, nor in reaching across himself for the corner of the blanket so that he may pull it back, and carefully sit up in the bed. He has other questions he wants to ask, but along with the tiredness still swimming throughout him, he has his patience.
He'll ask one question at a time... and in the moments in between, treasure his younger brother's obvious concern, and closeness. ]
