I avoid the whole mess by simply ignoring the New Year except as a day to sleep late after, hopefully, having gone to a pary. I don't get resolutions, either; as they say on Passover, Why is this night different from all other nights? Answer: It's not.
Except that it's as good a placeholder as any for folks who like having an endpoint on which they can assess the recent past or reboot.
You could just as well pick March 3 or September 15 or whatever. Humans make patterns and rules; it's just how our brains are structured. The universe chugs on pretty much oblivous.

I read this this afternoon, and it's tangentially relevant, so I figured whet the heck, I'd type it in in between hands. Maybe it helped, maybe it didn't, but I'm up 12 bucks in the last half-hour
