Framing the debate

So we're going to have new test cases for our abortion laws now that we've got new supreme court justices. That's fine. But let's reframe the debate here. Even if abortion is made illegal, we all know that they will still go on. Before we had legal abortion, it happened in private, in back alleys, in less than ideal conditions. I have no doubt that ( Read more... )

The most interesting thing about this post to me is the concept of how important framing the debate has become. I have the sense that 30 years ago, politicians weren't as sophisticated at the slick spin as they are now. This administration excels at it, and at framing debates according to their own agendas.

The question becomes: How does one go about successfully framing a debate, and getting other people to buy in? Is this something that can only be done by those in power? (Clearly not, since Bill Clinton didn't get to frame the Monica debate.)

I think if we learn the secrets of framing the debate, we will be a lot closer to regaining power in this country. Catchy phrases like "if it doesn't fit, you must acquit" are probably helpful, as are blunt, simple ideas that make the issue seem black-and-white, so white is skewed to your side.

I like your reframing of this debate, but how would you go about spreading it nationwide?

Good reframing! ihgreenman February 26 2006, 08:56:25 UTC
By the same token, the "Moral Majority" are the greatest supporters of abortion out there.

Why?

Because they insist that condoms should not be in school.
Because they insist that kids not get taught truthfully about sex.
Because they insist that programs like Planned Parenthood are evil.
Because they insist that "abstenence is the only way"

All of these add up to far more unwanted pregnancies than should happen, and a fair number of them are then aborted.

So judging by the results of the "Moral Majority"'s actions, I can only conclude that they are in support of abortion, and further, that they want to create pain, misery, and torture young kids.

Waitaminute: I just proved that the "MM" are really and truly evil! So, go out and remove a "MM" member from society today -- It's For The Kids!
