Communication has always been very important to me. I've prided myself on my ability to write. I've done live theatre, improv, and sketch comedy. I've lectured to rooms from 2 to 200 people. I've had one of my pieces performed on NPR. I have even used my skills to earn a rental car upgrade. And yet ( Read more... )

I've got a book for you; I'll bring it tonight.

Good luck moving forward with this. I know it's difficult work, but it will pay off tremendously in the long run.

Self-censorship: far less fun than a barrel of monkeys, yet far more fun than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, which what you might get if you speak too freely around dangerous people. = rock + hard place.

Glad that you now live thousands of miles away from the most dangerous people in this context. Interesting that you chose a career involving computers, which:
--never ignore you
--never argue with you
--require absolute linguistic precision

Good for you. A painful childhood can sometimes result in a very unique and valuable perspective on life, a creative nature, and a wicked sense of humor. I'm not saying it's worth all that, but that you deserve to exercise what meager gifts it left you with. I hope that your efforts help to exorcise your past and also to clear the air with your family.
