The best way I've found of dealing with folks like this is to remind myself that there are crazy people in the world, and crazy people don't listen to reason because, well, they're crazy. They can't help it.
I realize this doesn't help much when they seem to have the tacit support of government behind them. But really, the world is full of crazies. You can't change them, but you can pity them.
Having gone nuclear on a bus a few weeks ago and screamed at a guy in a huge cross loudly making antisemetic comments, "Jesus would be ashamed at you!", I empathize. I wasn't able to avoid getting livid, either.
I don't have a solution except--to sound trite--keep creating the world you want to live in. I think in a very real way we change the world one person at a time.
