Max n Alec: Not my Type
Max pushed through the crowds of Crash towards the pool tables, where Alec had two other men and one girl watching him shoot.
“Who wants to bet that this bozo misses?” Said one of the taller boys.
“Aye,” Replied the other guy.
“Aye!” Added the girl, making Alec look up with confusion.
“Don't be like that,” he teased with a droopy expression.
The girl smirked, “You're good,” she then set her arm around the tall boy, “But you're not my type.”
“Hmpth. Whatever, I warned ya...” Alec resumed to aiming the pool cue and suddenly spotted Max approaching, her gait was smooth and patient. A snicker of appreciation rose at the corner of his lips and he took the shot. Two of the balls collided, causing one to drop into the hole instantly. The eight ball, however, spun frantically for three seconds-Alec held his breath-and dropped into the hole.
He smiled, and looked at the three baffled opponents. “Who wants to bet that this bozo gets angry since he lost the bet?” He asked, indicating the tallest guy with the cue.
The tall man did exactly that, “What the hell just happened?!” He stood nose-to-nose with Alec.
“A fair game. Now where's my cash?”
Max watched in awe as Alec teased the group even more, she found OC and Sketchy now beside her.
“What's your boy up to, now?” OC said, “Gambling, fighting, showing off, or getting into trouble?”
Max rolled her eyes, “All of the above.”
“What a legend!” Sketchy muttered, “I wish I could get that much attention.”
Max and OC shot a disapproving look at Sketchy-like as if he was insane.
Now Alec was in a brawl with the men, the girl watched helplessly, as Alec managed to grab both men and smack their heads together, knocking them out completely.
He got up, brushed his clothes, and grabbed the money off the bench beside the girl. “Thanks for the game,” He said to the girl, winking.
The girl just stared in utter surprise, “How'd you do that?”
“Reflexes, I guess.”
“No way! There was a lot more than that! You were like, a blur!”
“Well, thanks, but you're not my type.” Alec joined Max and the gang at the table. “How was that?”
“That was freakin' awesome, man! It's great to see someone else losing their tax money and not me.” Sketchy said, high-fiving Alec enthusiastically.
“Yeah, more jerks who are gonna come after you with their buddies, that is awesome,” Max added smugly.
Alec laughed sarcastically, “I never thought you cared, Maxie.”
“I don't. I just hate having to save your ass all the time. It might as well be my part-time job-if I only got paid for it.”
“Actually, that's not a bad idea-you could be a bouncer for Crash,” Alec said thoughtfully.
“Yeah right, I reckon the boys would just be begging me to throw 'em out, me bein' a girl and all.”
“Well, after that little performance back at the Blowfish Tavern, why wouldn't they?”
“Could you stop bringing that up?”
“Aw, but it was so fun--”
“You mean when you got shot?”
Alec paused, and shrugged.
The group continued to talk and laugh with each other for fifteen minutes until Max's pager bleeped, “It's Logan,” She said, and got up to find a pay phone, “I'll be back.”
“'Bout time he called.” Alec muttered, “I mean, he's gotta fall out of that wheelchair sometime.”
