Document: Lii vs. Gemini 悲しみの終わり(End of Sorrow)

A snippet of what went down when Lii got the chance to defeat her inner darkness once and for all, mostly because I was inspired and wanted to get it off my chest. Background music for this can be found here.

It was strange.

Lii knew that she was still fighting, but she didn’t feel anything from it. It was like she was just going through the motions and that Gemini wasn’t even putting any strength behind her blows. But that was impossible, considering the damage that they had both dealt earlier. Heartless weren’t exactly renowned for their sense of mercy.

It wasn’t until she felt something drive into her right shoulder that she suddenly took notice of her surroundings. Grimacing, the background noise that she had tried to drown out suddenly came in crystal-clear, the yells from the others fighting Vee- no, the Violet Masque- coming in as if she were fighting alongside them. It was also by now that she realized that driving force was the fact that Gemini took her sword and impaled her right shoulder with it, effectively pinning her into the wall.

Oh. So that’s what it was.

She screamed, pain returning to her senses with a vengeance. Lii grit her teeth, jaw tightening reflexively in an effort to divert the pain away from her shoulder. A coping mechanism, if you will.

“Good, I was starting to think you were ignoring me, you bitch. Quit spacing out…unless you want to die,” Gemini growled, tilting Lii’s head up in order to force the other to look at the Heartless. “Otherwise I’d have to force you into paying attention, and I’m sure you don’t want me to do that. Heh…honestly, I don’t even know why I wanted to take you over in the first place. You’re pathetic. You let your emotions rule you. Fuck up once and you act like it’s the end of the fucking world.”

“Unlike you…I want as little bloodshed as possible…” Lii managed to say, surprised that her mouth was still working. “I don’t want to kill. I’ve seen death, you know that. And I hate it.” I just wanted everything to turn out okay. We defeat the bad guys, save the day, and go home. But it’s never that simple, is it? They had been fighting for weeks, and she was getting sick of it. But she knew that she had to keep fighting. Because if they didn’t, who would be there to stop the Masquerade? It wasn’t so much of a sense of privilege as it was of duty.

“Keh, you’re still scared, after all this time? Maybe I should’ve let Ryusei kill you.”

Lii grimaced as the sword was driven deeper into the wall before glaring upward, breathing staggered, and yet keeping a level glare as she continued, “I know I’m going to die eventually, and even so…I don’t want to die like this. I want to see my family again, the friends that I had left behind when I came here…I want to live.”As she said this, flames erupted from her body, the intensity forcing Gemini to back off. “I’ve had enough of this, Gemini. You’ve threatened my friends, my comrades, and my very existence as a human being. It’s high time we finish this, you disgusting piece of work,” she said dangerously, reaching for the blade impaled in her shoulder. “I said I wanted to finish this on my own terms, but who knew that the Masquerade would have lent me such a helping hand. Because of them, you exist. And now,” she paused, smiling before ripping the sword out of her shoulder, “Because of them…you’ll be destroyed.”

“You honestly think so? Just a moment ago, you were on the verge of fucking tears, plus you could barely stand.” Gemini gave her a wicked grin, watching as she threw the weapon that had been in her shoulder just moments ago to the side. In retaliation to the white-gold flames that Lii was producing at this point, Gemini also decided to activate her dark flames. “How can you have what it takes to defeat me and the White Masque?”

Lii didn’t respond right away, taking a couple steps forward while ignoring the searing pain in her right shoulder. She could heal herself later, right now what mattered was finishing this fight once and for all. “Let me ask you this, Gemini. How is it that despite you wanting to get at me so much, I’ve almost always been able to stay in control? The only times that you’ve taken over is when I let you.” She gave her dark counterpart a sad, almost pitying, smile. I’m the one that created you, it’s only right I destroy you as well. “That’s why…I’m taking you down… here and now.” After saying that, she disappeared for a split second, only to reappear in front of Gemini, fist cocked. The immediate area around the two exploded in a mix of black and white flames enveloping the area, with only one word uttered from the both of them: 「燃える!」(“Burn!”)

When the dust cleared, the two were still standing, but Lii’s left arm was driven into Gemini’s stomach while she was deflecting the worst of a blow to her face by rolling with the punch. Lii pushed forward, ignoring the searing pain that was coming in waves throughout her entire body as she called upon the flames again. “I’m done running.”

“You…you put it all on the line again…should’ve known, you dumbass. Maybe you do have some killer instinct in you after all…”

“No. I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t mess it up this time.” Her voice held no emotion, and her gaze was cold as she watched her dark side begin to fade away, ignoring the tug on her sleeve. “I’m not going to give you anything ever again. Not now…never,” she said softly.
