Polo Boys - A Distasteful Milking of The Pink Community by MediaCorp

I’ve been seeing lots of discussion and excitement about Polo Boys, a new series by MediaCorp which features quite a few tanned, lean sexy boys frolicking in the pool. The general sentiment is that most gay boys are eagerly awaiting the series’ premier to feast their eyes on the attractive athleticism on display during prime-time TV in Singapore ( Read more... )

what if u're looking at it thru gay-tinted glasses?

what if they're aiming for the bigger female population?

of course the viewership will have a sizeable female population ... but u cannot deny it will also have a very sizeable gay viewership right? more than most other programmes?

the higher the viewership numbers of female + gay = higher ratings

i think mediacorp just wants the viewership numbers and besides, who don't like to look at pretty faces? it is a visual buffet.

i think perhaps they got away with it cos there is no storyline of bbr and/or sexual content and/or imply any gay plots in the drama series. to straight people, most of them would think it is a sports drama series and the boys who play waterpolo are all tanned and fit like that. and playing waterpolo is not exactly a homosexual lifestyle mah.

i mean, this is what i think la. even if they really are tapping on the gay group, they know they will get the ratings and numbers. so either ways, they win.

well, sex sells, and i'm already used & jaded to the fact people only use things to their own benefits.

and not all are erm, that lean or sexy. ha

I really don't see any issues with this new drama series. It's typically MediaCorp, sub-par production.

So your gripe is that you feel that they are "using" us for audience figures? That they are not allowed to promote homosexuality? Don't see why we should make a big deal out of it. At least they know we're part of the audience.

juz vote with your actions. Shun the tv series.(Though it's not as if they had produced anything better since Masters OT Sea!)

There will always be a diversity even within the aj community. Some choose to be unabashedly stereotyped.

While others, choose to maintain certain standards among their life choices.

R u type 1 or type 2? :)
