Water is such a key thing in weight loss and over all health. These days I do not drink any carbonated drinks and only have my morning cup of coffee. All else is water. You can get the crystal light packets to add to your water so that is is not as boring.
Try not to beat yourself up too much about the weight thing. I have been in that cycle myself. Just get it in your head that you are going to do something about it and try not to dwell on it.
You have a great family that loves you....focus on that. :)
I found that the more you drink just water, the more you become a custom to it. Especially if you get a cool cup or mug.. it almost makes it fun to drink water. Lol.
I started drinking a lot of water lately when one of my co-workers came down with kidney stones... about 3 times in the past few months...
...and I've also cut out a lot of carbonated sodas.
the part that he didn't mention... yes I've been drinking nothing but water... but before i was drinking like 6 20 oz cokes a day at 250 calories a pop, it adds up... i haven't drank a coke since April, that's where the bulk of my weight loss has come from, because i haven't changed my diet, or exercise ... i use the crystal light energy which is the only flavor i can stomach and has caffeine (more than 2 cokes)
what a coinkidink! i've been doing the same thing, but i feel obligated to pass on a warnning: earlier this year my aunt cut out all carbonated drinks except for her morning coffee. all she drank was water and after about 2-3 months she had to be hospitalized for dehydration. the doctors informed her that dehydration is not just the lack of water in your body but also the lack of electrolytes. apparently electrolytes are just as important as water/hydration. so every now and then (about 2-3 times a week, i make it a point to drink something else...poweraid, gatoraid, diet dr pepper, tea, etc...something else to catch up on my electrolytes (and i take vitamins =)
My wife use to drink 5 to 8 cans of coke a day.....and I use to drink about 5 to 8 glasses of milk a day......(I had heard that milk slows down your metabolism)......
My wife cut out the coke and drinks about 5 to 8 bottles of water (16oz) a day.......been doing that for a few months now......
I have cut out the milk (except my morning bowl of cereal).....and I drink about 3 to 4 bottles of water (20oz) a day.
My wife has dropped at least 40 lbs and several inches in a couple of months......
I have lost about 15 lbs and 2 inches since I started last month......

Yep, Toni was using the crystal light packets in her water......
I just never bothered with water.......
But, this month, I tried to drink only water.......the crystal light packets help.....because, I'm not a plain water drinker.......
