A decade

Yesterday I cleaned out all of my kitchen cabinets. I threw a bunch of stuff away and got really organized. Now I have one junk drawer instead of 6!

As I went through the cupboards, I began to remove the newspaper lining three of the top shelves. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why I'd left that newspaper there. I picked it up and looked at it. It was dated June 24, 1996. I shivered, then my eyes teared up. I knew why I left the newspaper there.

Levi was born on June 12, 1996. As with every one of my other kids, Aunt Jo came to stay with me after the baby was born. She took care of me, the baby, my husband and the other kids. She cooked, cleaned, washed clothes and when she saw that I didn't have shelf liner on some cupboard shelves, she used newspaper to line them.

Ten years ago when Aunt Jo lined my shelves with newspaper she was 86 years old. I have no idea how she climbed up to those top shelves but she did. We lost Aunt Jo this past October at age 95.

So after cleaning the shelves, I put the newspaper back. June 24, 1996 will stay on those top shelves. Aunt Jo would approve.
