Yeah, it's really nice to have something to look forward to in Washington. Last night was pretty cool after so many disappointments.

Of Georgia once again proved itself to be backwoods, immigrant/gay-hating, etc by re-electing Sonny and, for the first time ever, electing a Republican Lt. Governor.

it's weird how much something so abstract as blue and red bars on charts reported all night (and into the next day) can completely change your outlook on the planet. i've moved from disgruntled to hopeful to anxious ("we did that-- what do we do now?"), and it's kind of jarring!

I believe the phrase we're all looking for is "Holy crap!" Perhaps my favorite election commentary, however, is this from the Wikipedia article on Chet Culver, the governor-elect of Iowa: "Culver studied briefly at Drake Law School before earning a masters degree in education from Drake University. Culver taught high school in Des Moines, Iowa prior to election as Secretary of State in 1998. Many have noticed a strong resemblance between Culver and Mr. Incredible from the movie The Incredibles [citation needed]"

Because's THAT's what I want in a leader.

Not only in Washington, but in Madison. We ousted Mark Pettis, recently ranked among the Top Ten Least Effective State Legislators by a non-partisan study. One of his Republican colleagues dubbed him a "photo-op asamblyman."
On a recent visit to a HS civics class, Pettis spoke strongly about the need to take part in government, to protect freedom of speech. At this juncture he took a student to task for wearing a T-shirtsupporting his opponent, told the kid he was breaking the law. When another student asked how this jived with his defense of free speech, Petis replied he didn't have time for "this bullshit." (At least that's the buzz on the street. The paper omitted the cussing) We only beat him by 700 votes. Up in this part of the state that's probably a 5% margin. I guess we're heading in the rght direction
