Advent Day 2

Who's up for round 2?  I know I am!  I found this one titled Word Problem from Heck.  I thought you would enjoy.

A rope over the top of a fence has the same length on each side and weighs one-third of a pound per foot.   On one end hangs a monkey holding a banana, and on the other end a weight equal to the weight of the monkey.  The banana weighs 2 ( Read more... )

Oh my word. I think the problem is appropriately titled. Though, I will admit some part of me is tempted to try and see if I could figure it out.
If I were to ever actually get a problem like this on a test or homework, I'd probably answer by saying the banana got eaten by the monkey so its length is now irrelevant.

Why isn't the weight rising and the monkey and his banana, eaten or not, going at least slowly down?
