Locke Lamora Read-Along Bonus #4: YOU SUCK, LYNCH

Mar 27, 2012 00:20

"Don't fall for all the commerical hype purporting that this book is the new fantasy. The only fantasy was in the author's head and he was not able to communicate that well at all. Which is too bad because some of the images are stark and clear and riveting and drew me deeper and deeper into the book.....against my will. The book is arrogant, ( Read more... )

One reviewer of She Nailed a Stake Through His Head: Tales of Biblical Terror gave it one star with the review reading "Did not read. Encountered demons at the beginning."

As much as I try to avoid Goodreads (especially the reviews of Teddy Bear Cannibal Massacre which was the first book I edited and rough as hell - full of typos and the like) that one still makes me laugh.

I liked the italics. There's nothing like them for emphasizing truly scathing sarcasm...and you'd have to admit, you wrote a bunch of sincerely sarcastic characters. :-P

And then you have people like me who count your books as their very favourites of all time. Whether Sanderson has a deeply developed magic system in Mistborn, or George R. R. Martin takes killing ALL the characters to lengths few authors will reach, your books will always be favourites to certain people, giving comfort when there's bad moods or depression, delight when re-reading the scene where the Bastards are drinking and calling each other "Liar!" and just so much in every other way.

That said, those sharks are pretty damn cool.

You know what's really sickening for those of us who limpingly try to write? You wrote a blog entry about things which were bad with your first novel, and it's awesome. The blog entry that is. And the novel too.

I'm jealous. If there were some sharks nearby, I would feed myself to them. And my writing.

Hi, faery_lights. I don't know you, so your writing woes are probably none of my business. But I read this comment right after reading this article, and the timing was just too perfect. Go there. Read it now. Especially #14 ("I Need to Write Like (Insert Some Other Asshole's Name Here)!") and #25 ("I Suck Moist Open Ass ( ... )

Well... thank you very much for your encouragement! I promise I was just joking- I have no intention of feeding myself OR my writing to sharks. I simply suffer from regular cases of writing envy, which I'm fairly sure is common. I fully intend to keep writing- mainly because it makes all my colleagues think I am doing something very important ;) But thank you for your kind words! :)

I don't like the spam, but a quick google search seems to indicate that "quarrel" and bolt _are_ synonyms; so I'm a little confused about the source of your shame?
