Any word on any other talks/signings while you're over in the UK? It would be joyous to see you.

I can vouch for what Scott says about WFC - have heard similar reports from Farah Mendelsohn, the Keens etc.

I live in Yorkshire and am now wondering if I can make to London next week.

Ack, just remembered I've invited friends to dinner on Wednesday next week. That's most of my spoons for next week used up.

It's depressing that the people who are running the event are giving such a bad impression of Britain and the British. We're not all like that.

As someone who is (and has) run academic conferences, sometimes almost single-handedly I can safely say that things do go wrong, people flake out, venues don't keep promises and shit happens entirely beyond your control. However, it really doesn't take much to be nice to your attendees and to assure them that you're doing your best to help them. If you're lucky they won't remember the con for the fact their gluten intolerance slipped through the catering cracks - they'll remember it for someone being drafted in (a porter at the venue, bribed with a posh conference bag) to take them through every item on the buffet and say whether they could or couldn't eat it ( ... )
