Last time it still kinda sorta worked, especially without the demands of an apartment full of people. I don't think they really diagnosed anything, but rather just topped off the coolant. This time it's truly dead. Sounds wrong, no cold air, etc etc.
On the plus side, the floor fan I happened to buy last week is doing a good job.
Bah. Bloody stupid of them. I'd had hopes that they actually, you know, REPAIRED it when you reported it last time. Just costs them more money in the long run, but most management companies have trouble seeing past this week's ledger sheet. Either it ran dry altogether, which means the compressor siezed up and/or overheated (compressor motor is usually cooled by passing referigerant gas), or it ended up with water in the lines when they just topped it off without running it through a drier and/or completely replacing the refrigerant, which means the compressor tried to violate the laws of physics by compressing a liquid and lost. Of course, the fact that the AC likely had to run 24/7 to maintain temperatures with depleted refrigerant sure didn't help matters. Could have overheated and siezed up that way- the most likely failure mode, really. Point is, I'd bet they're out a compressor, and likely a new condensing unit. Honestly, I hope that's the case, for the long term good. I suppose it could have just tripped a thermal
( ... )
They don't open until 10, so the complaint was via phone. They've been a good and responsive complex in the past (as one would expect, for what I pay...), so I won't get testy unless they screw this up further.
