Damn. Just... Damn. That really sucks. I can tell you from shared experience that nothing twists your gut in quite the same way as having your brand new car bunged up a month after you buy it. I'm sorry that happened to you, and glad you're at least okay physically.

As for the guy being decent enough to stop, well, I think he pretty much lost all claim to decency by lying through his teeth and changing his story when the cops arrived.

I wouldn't say all claims. People with none simply run. Still, I'm not saying there's a lot there...

Fair enough. He did at least stop to make sure he didn't kill you. That's something, anyway.

OUCH. Is your collision insurance covering at least some of that?

All. I'm going to attempt to get them to get it from the other guy's insurance, but given the circumstances, I'm not hopeful of that.

Good. I'll bet it won't take much persuading to get them to go after the other guy's insurance. Unless it's pretty cut-and-dried (ie one driver was asleep at the wheel... ahem, yeah), there's always a finger-pointing match between the two insurance companies. Hopefully you'll still only have to do one phone deposition, though. (Those things always make me nervous, but you have a few more layers of editing between thought and speech than I do, so hopefully not as bad for you.) With any luck, your repairs will be complete and you'll be on your way well before they settle who pays who, in any case.
