Fic: Simple (Holmes/Watson)

Feb 06, 2010 11:14

Part of my lover100 challenge.
Prompt: 16. Simple

When Holmes tries to teach him how to pick locks, Watson finds himself frustrated. He throws the tool down, exclaiming, “I can't do this!”

Holmes looks up from his newspaper with arched eyebrows. “You're making it harder than it is,” he replies, eying Watson's work.

“It's difficult,” Watson insists, and he knows that he's whinging. But it isn't his fault that Holmes is belittling him.

“It isn't,” his companion says flippantly and sets aside his newspaper to kneel beside Watson on the floor. He places the pick back in Watson's hand and covers it with his own, guiding him. “It's actually quite simple,” he breathes against the doctor's ear, and the lock clicks open. “You see?”
