Rachel, no need to respond to this as i've know you for a long time...understand your reasons and honestly i think you are the first person ive seen with this particular obsession

Agreed 100%...im just curious if there is some magical power they imbue or something...why else would so many kids all have the same exact thing and think its super-fantastique...
Are the actually white or is it black light sensative ink??
And yeah...maybe ask her if it has specific meaning to her for one reason or the other...else she got it cuz its cool and such a permanent scarification just to be cool...well noe we are talking truly fooish, silly and dumb.
I like stars. Particularly for their use in the movie Practical Magic but I can't say I'd go as far as getting the tattoo. I've got a few friends with them as tattoos and never really thought much of it till now. One of them is just obsessed with the shape of a star and it's everywhere in her house.
...I prefer something that would have meaning...but then again, since when are emo/scenester kids linked to any sort of meaning?
I think it's ridiculous, too. But if you think about it, any "scene" these days is all about fitting in. Why should tattooing be any different? (Well, ok, it SHOULD be different, but it's not -- people don't understand the ramifications of having something permanantly inked onto their body.) The majority of young people are concerned with fitting in -- clothes, music, etc are all evidence of that. Tattooing has, sadly, become just another way to keep up with the trends. Stupid fucks. :-P
I understand your point for sure...but this isnt a tatoo scene thing...thats a whole other ball of wax...it really is just that group of scenesters with the shaggy hair (okay i LOVE the shaggy hair) and boys in girls jeans etc...that all think they are the only ones doing what they are doing even though they are a cookie cutter mold of every other person in their circle...
I feel so self assured when i see these cats walking around...i really do need to make "I want to be unique, JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE" into a t-shirt...
and actually, i happen to agree, for the most part. i'm against people thoughtlessly having their bodies marked [actually, this is wrong--i'm against having myself marked this way, but i think other people doing it is stupid] with something that lots of other people have because i'm also against people just walking into a shop and picking something off the wall after fifteen minutes' consideration. but that doesn't mean all star tattoos are meaningless, and it doesn't mean they all look the same. but they really do tend to look the same if they aren't part of a bigger piece.
Thank you for the article...it was insightful...but if we want to play devils advocate then let me do the same...
I was talking about a specific group of people, all of which seem to have the SAME star tatoos and all seem to hang together...and i certainly don't think that star tatoos are a thing that brings kids together into a group...i really think its the other way around.
Now...in the exaplmes sited, each had a very unique and probably self designed star design...that is far different from going into a shop and saying...tatoo stars on me.
I did enjoy the article as i will soon (hopefully) be one of the myriad people in the planet with Kanji emblazend on my body...each with a very specific meaning and specific placement.

My friend got white stars on her neck, and the white barely shows up and almost looks like a scar. I thought that was interesting.
