A friend invited me to this book blogging site, so I started to sign up. Step 2 is to give your hotmail/yahoo/gmail username and password so that it can invite your friends. And that particular page is not secure. (The browser doesn't have a lock icon in the lower right. Though it's possible that submitting that information goes to a secure ( Read more... )

Facebook's the same. I skipped that step without a second thought.

Interesting. Both Facebook and LinkedIn have the same mechanism, and I used it for Facebook, and I think it was worthwhile there. But those sites both have secure pages.

The page for this book-related site, on the other hand, is insecure. I'm not willing to submit my real password to try it out, but I used a fake address / password and it reloaded the page with the address and password in the source, in plaintext. Don't use that feature.
