Thoughts from the two Toms

Jefferson -

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

Paine -

These are times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.

Serious question: what can we do? I feel the need to *do* something about this. It compares to the internment of the Japanese, in my mind.

`tis a good question, young mother and blackberry off the bush. I'm not sure myself, but things have been bad before. I refer you to someone who is better writer than I - http://mishalak.livejournal.com/375229.html

Right now I'm continuing to spread information - how the military doesn't really want or even like the idea, how ineffective this is in gaining useful and true information but how good it is at generating "confessions of guilt", how many of those people that were or are being held either are completely innocent or guilty of minor non-terror crimes (this is an important point - 'coddling terrorists' was the phrase, not 'torturing people accused of being terrorists/unlawful combatants ( ... )

I'm well known for stirring up trouble, for decades now. Next week it's likely you'll find me in the street, marching with my daughter.

Letters ... must write more letters...

There never are enough. I remember reading that maybe a third of the population was in favor of the American War for Independence, and almost as many opposed it. So many movements exist for a long time as but a small fraction of the society, until the tipping point is near.

Enough, the days of my youth are gaining too much hold.

Give me liberty or I'll sign a harshly worded petition.

It's a starting point. Sending DC into an alternative dimension is another step, but the other dimension might get pissed at us.
