Just for fun, what are your thoughts on vegetarianism, flist? Is it a totally necessary thing that anyone who respects animals should do, or is it something completely ridiculous because they're just chickens? I'm not a vegetarian, but I eat meat rare enough that I could pretty much switch with no problem. Vegetarianism is delicious, though. I ( Read more... )

I actually was a vegetarian for a while, but had to stop because I got wayyy too skinny. I just couldn't medically do it (curse my insane metabolism!). It's definatly a very, very cool thing though, and if you want to try it, I say go for it!

Also, have you seen the PETA Matrix spoof anti-meat video? I found it both depressing and hilarious. (Yes, I know PETA's batshit, but it was a good video)

I haven't! I'll make sure to google that next time I'm at the library.

I'm very "live and let live" when it comes to food. I'm not a vegetarian (and if I was, I'd have to be vegan, because of dairy allergies), but it's a personal choice with its benefits and negatives. If it works for you, more power to you. My mom's kind of like you - not a formal vegetarian, but I've seen her eat meat maybe three times this year.

Heh, my best friend is a vegetarian, and she started down that road because pigs are her favourite animal. First she'd just avoid pork, then all red meat, then poultry. And finally, after years of my teasing her that she doesn't respect the sea, she's given up fish.

As long as they are killed humanely (and hopefully get to live humanely, too), I don't have any animal rights-related issues with eating meat ( ... )

Stuff that's completely organic goes bad quicker

Right, which is why it should be as fresh as possible, despite the fact that most people don't have a garden to go pick it from or a grocer that has fresh produce every day. I mean, I suppose it's possible to look into finding ways to preserve things on one's own...though I'm not really familiar with any methods that aren't from the 19th century, and they mostly involve lots of salt or sugar, which isn't exactly healthy.

Honestly, "from scratch" vs "pre-prepared" is the serious health question

*nod nod* Yes, I've heard that as well. Trouble is preparing food takes so much time.

And it sits there, on the plate, with its horrible monstrous giant insect face and beady eyes and ten-inch antennae, and stares at you while you eat it. Not cool.

Hahaha. Ew, yes. I hate the part where the person eating it has to break open every last body part to get the meat out.

I'm very against the way animals are killed for food inhumanely and very into animal rights- I eat very little meat other than pepperoni and the occasional chicken drumstick.

The only reason I eat this much meat is that I'm an EXTREMELY picky eater and there are very few things I can eat w/o wanting to gag- so I have to take what I can get. :'( But if you want to go veg, I say go for it.
