He tried it on a dare. He was nervous, but his social status was too shaky to reject dares lightly. Skinny boys who cried easily have to be ready to eat worms or jump off the roof at a moment’s notice.
So he did it. He told the new substitute that he was an exchange student from Russia. His accent was convincing; his impromptu presentation on Matrioshka dolls compelling. Danny felt drunk with being someone else.
At lunch, Randy said, "Rydell pulled it off" and didn’t shove him. Jenna smiled and giggled, "You are so funny, Danny."
Danny was hooked.
