Oh, dear. My 11-yr-old has discovered fan fic. At least she hasn't asked what sites I like - - I'm hoping our fandoms don't cross for a while! I must never let her watch Sports Night, lol.
Well, she has already startled me with the information that she's bisexual (startling because, y'know, she's ELEVEN, and has never mentioned boy nor girl), so I don't think slash would faze her. But the thought of her stumbling across slash and/or smut authored by moi? yeah, weird.
Yeah, but the key is, does she know your screen name? That's the main reason I have two blogs. All the slash stuff goes here, and the "real life fannish stuff" goes on the other one.
Daughter Number Two told me she was a lesbian when she was younger (the idea of sex scared her to death), then she decided she was bi and confessed to having had a "girlfriend" at 13. Now she seems mostly interested in boys (oh, and the "girlfriend" is now her second best friend and she's seen her possibly everyday this summer). I think sexuality is rather fluid at this age. (actually, i know many people who's sexuality has changed as they age).
As phoebesmum states, I have in fact lived through my kids discovering the glories of slash. They are not as into the fic though, so I get a pass there. If it makes you feel better, 11 is pretty young to really enjoy Sports Night, so you are probably safe. It bored my kids when I tried to get them to watch it.
No wonder our kids got along so well, they really are cut from the same cloth. ;-)

I believe suchthefangirl's children discovered slash some time ago, and she lived to tell the tale.
