Your gushing makes me incredibly happy on a level I can't convey; I was reading about the life of Poe earlier (a much superior writer who went through the terror of publishing what nobody much cared to read) and it was slightly perturbing. So I did a dance when I read your review and was touched. Thank you very much :)
world building. The level of detail you've woven into the story is just so beautifully textured and complex.
I'm glad it's coming across! When I write, I have no idea if I'm conveying the mental picture. Sometimes I'll come back to a scene after moving on and I'll say, "That's not what I meant!" XD
Rinzler/Clu relationship just seems like a fucked up version of Kevin/AlanOh yes--and more of that on the way
( ... )
Aww :D I'm happy my squee made you squee too then! LOL
When I write, I have no idea if I'm conveying the mental picture.
Honestly I do really appreciate the level of detail you put into creating your post-apocalyptic Grid because I understand how much effort is involved with trying to recreate that sense of place (and also, I'm very jealous!).
The next bit is a look at how Tronzler got to where he is. I'm debating whether to post as a new part, an interlude, or as an addendum to Part 5.I think an interlude sounds like a brilliant idea. And I know I've been saying this for a while, but I really can't wait to see what the full backstory with Tron is. I think the fact that he still hasn't shown Alan his face is so telling, and his possessiveness of Kevin is heartbreaking as well. So yup, wondering how things got to be so twisted and also what it says about Alan's own osyche since Tron's basically a part of him as well

I'm glad you think there's something to be jealous of, because I'm oblivious! Not even joking. I'm sure you've done the thing where you go back and read something you wrote years ago... and say wtf. I never quite forget that I exist in dense cloud of unknowing without feedback.
The other thing I'm playing with is how to feed the reader the suggestion of the place, without going overboard and killing the reader's creative input. Readers seem to like being able to project their own imaginations into things... they just need a stable platform. Or something. I don't know.
I think an interlude sounds like a brilliant idea.
Then an interlude it will be! <3 <3 <3
I really can't wait to see what the full backstory with Tron is. Okay, truth time: this part was supposed to have the Tron story. But the muse said
( ... )
I have to say, the dynamic between all four of them is quite fascinating. Tronler's continuing actions (picking Flynn over Clu, Flynn over Alan-1, ect.) is giving me a good bit of a creeper impression.
Oh God, as much as I adore Kevin and Alan together, Tron is killing me. I feel so bad for him, I just, I don't know, want to give him a hug or something. I can't wait to see how this plays out, but I hope Tron is ok in the end. He deserves some happiness too after everything. *cries*
And yes there is a part of me hoping for a threesome. *cries some more*

Me too. Poor guy. Alan thinks he's sacrificed a lot, but compared to Tron--well, let's just say it's not quite the same!
He deserves some happiness too after everything. *cries*
Agree. I think there's some happiness/hope for all of them at the end, but someone else might read my tale differently.
And yes there is a part of me hoping for a threesome.
I don't want to give away too much, but when I wrote the semi-sex scene above, I was thinking of Athena and Boomer from BSG.
Okay, that was too much. LOL. I just love you reviewers so much, it's hard to keep things from you :D
Oh man, "great" seems such an understatement for this fic. I love how the events unfold and the characters develop. Shit, poor Tronzler, I hope his and Alan's situation will have some positive resolution. They've always seemed to be such an example of normal, non-angsty relationship, certainly compared to Flynn & Clu (and I don't even mean that in a romantic sense), but it's really interesting to see how Tron's reprogramming might have influenced that.
Also, I'm in awe of your mad description skillz. Seriously. I can't write descriptions to save my life, and I really like how vivid the picture of the Grid in ruins is. The whole gritty industrialism of it sometimes reminds me of Naked Lunch by Burroughs.

Haha! You've picked up on my reason for focusing on Alan rather than Kevin. As geeky as Alan was and can be, he's closer to "normal" than most of the other characters in my AU. We can identify with him faster than just about anyone.
Kevin can be pretty far out. And Lora, the other real world character, has her own story... more on that later, I think.

Wow! I'm reading about Naked Lunch and am in total awe of this comparison. You've added a book to this week's shopping list... which is just about fifty billion kinds of awesome, because I'm always looking for more literature. It feeds the writing machine XD nom nom nom
The imagery is taking root! Wonderful, wonderful! :D Happy authoress is happy
oof, poor Tronzler. He's on the outside looking in, now, just like Clu was... and just like Kevin, Alan isn't ready to admit what that means for him. Funny how he can see Flynn's problem so clearly, but not his own!
I really like Quorra in this -- it's a fun reversal to have her be the experienced one. Alan knows about the real world (and the part where you describe her POV on that is just painful!), but on the Grid Alan's the one who's naive and in need of guidance, and you really captured that here. Great job!

Yep. I see Alan as a unifier (rectifier? O_O) for Flynn and Clu in my AU. We'll see what happens with Tronzler...

Exactamundo. Themes of prisons and the consequences of interiorism/ignorance abound here.

I didn't think it would be possible for him to really love Kevin and not see the world Kevin built

Yeah. The part where he goes argh blargh I can't believe you want to stay here was really well-done -- both Alan's rage at being second-best again and Kevin's very Clu-like reaction to it were totally understandable. But it is indeed "all or nothing", like you said. The Grid is never going to stop being a part of Kevin. He has to fix it, not least because Clu would probably make him ("you broke your promise!")
Grey, I love your comments! You always make them so interesting BD
Truthfully, I almost didn't have Kevin offer to leave with Alan. But I think love necessitates a willingness for mutual sacrifice, reciprocated prisons, back-and-forth pull between two entities. So Kevin had to be Abraham putting Isaac on the altar. Alan just let him off the hook.
Now enter Tron, who's given himself up not once but twice...
