Mostly for Jamison, but Corey and Rudy might be interested, too.
So I was driving home from work in the rain this afternoon when I was struck by a most unhappy revelation, in that I realized which X-Man is going to die in the giant-sized finale of Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men which comes out (if we're lucky!) in February. As with my Lockheed

i hate it when they kill the good characters.
...especially when you see it coming from a mile away.
hopefully the feb issue won't accelerate your S.A.D. come mid-winter.

he pulled a bait and switch by killing cyclops, therefore fulfilling his stated purpose that someone would die in the breakworld story, only to bring him back next issue. Tricksie and convenient.
Which x-man is going to die?
Why are Danger and Brand on the cover? I wonder if Danger, having now seen that it cannot be what it thought it wanted to be, will 'become' an x-man, since it too is a mutant. Bam. Instant x-man you can kill without fucking up continuity too much.
From a Joss Whedon point,I can almost see it, but that's a matter of whether or not they would let him do it. I really would not want to deal with a forlorn and heartbroken colossus in just about every other book. It would almost be more poetic to re-kill colossus in saving Kitty.

And yes, there was the thing with Cyclops, and like you said, it was a good bait and switch, but the solicitations for Giant-Size Astonishing keep going on about "Say goodbye to Joss Whedon, John Cassaday and one of these X-Men!" And I don't think anybody will be shedding many tears when Wolverine "says goodbye" to join X-Force. There are just too many stars in alignment.
And you've inadvertently raised a startling point: show me the issue, show me the panel, in which Kitty Pryde has thus far appeared in Messiah CompleX.:(

it would be such god awful continuity to have the events of astonishing x-men play out in the 2 days between that story and Messiah complex.
