Death Is Her Gift

Mostly for Jamison, but Corey and Rudy might be interested, too.

So I was driving home from work in the rain this afternoon when I was struck by a most unhappy revelation, in that I realized which X-Man is going to die in the giant-sized finale of Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men which comes out (if we're lucky!) in February. As with my Lockheed ( Read more... )

boo!

i hate it when they kill the good characters.
...especially when you see it coming from a mile away.

hopefully the feb issue won't accelerate your S.A.D. come mid-winter.

in my heart of hearts, i believe you, because i've thought the same thing since they left earth. i sort of hope you are right, just because it will make joss' run on x-men flawless (to me). but i dunno....i'm sorta holding out for a surprise...I mean cassandra is still in the mix somewhere, and there WAS that evil look kitty gave to peter which everyone tries to tell me was just her being all "Sexy" for my favorite russian mutant ( ... )

you know, i'd like to stay the optimist when it comes to these matters. I'd like to think that J. Whedon is setting everyone up for a fucking twist. But that's probably why I'm often disappointed when the obvious thing happens.

except all the 'astonishing' x-men are in messiah complex, including Armor. makes me wonder.

he pulled a bait and switch by killing cyclops, therefore fulfilling his stated purpose that someone would die in the breakworld story, only to bring him back next issue. Tricksie and convenient.

Which x-man is going to die?

Why are Danger and Brand on the cover? I wonder if Danger, having now seen that it cannot be what it thought it wanted to be, will 'become' an x-man, since it too is a mutant. Bam. Instant x-man you can kill without fucking up continuity too much.

From a Joss Whedon point,I can almost see it, but that's a matter of whether or not they would let him do it. I really would not want to deal with a forlorn and heartbroken colossus in just about every other book. It would almost be more poetic to re-kill colossus in saving Kitty.

Oh, if only I could find succor in your sweet words! I was also thinking about Danger being technically a mutant. We'll see where she ends up.

And yes, there was the thing with Cyclops, and like you said, it was a good bait and switch, but the solicitations for Giant-Size Astonishing keep going on about "Say goodbye to Joss Whedon, John Cassaday and one of these X-Men!" And I don't think anybody will be shedding many tears when Wolverine "says goodbye" to join X-Force. There are just too many stars in alignment.

And you've inadvertently raised a startling point: show me the issue, show me the panel, in which Kitty Pryde has thus far appeared in Messiah CompleX.:(

you're right, now that I think about it, she was in the storyline directly before it, where she got trashed when the Acolytes attacked the school.

it would be such god awful continuity to have the events of astonishing x-men play out in the 2 days between that story and Messiah complex.

And AND! I'll bet Chris Claremont knows what I know! And he can't accept it, either, which is why he insisted on having his @#$%ing cardboard "Cat Pryde" cutout join the @#$%ing New Exiles! But IT DOESN'T COUNT, CHRIS CLAREMONT! NOTHING YOU WRITE COUNTS ANYMORE SO PLEASE STOP
