major tl;dr, I'm very sorry. carmanne July 22 2010, 05:30:34 UTC
Loved (and love) this story like I never thought I would. That sounds... absolutely terrible, but I've got to be honest-- I was a little nervous about reading Zach with Chris/anyone outside of the Trek cast (which really? is ridiculous on so many levels, but mostly because movie casts aren't like high school in that everyone dates everyone from the movie, but I digress). You have taken that terrible preconception and flailed it open with the power of Jesse Tyler Ferguson (and also, you know, superb characterization, excellent humor, well-written angst, etc. etc. But mostly Jesse).

Your stories are always a joy to read, and this was no exception. Zach and Jesse are all kinds of adorable (DANCING. and MEATLOAF. Also, I love that Jesse just sort of rolls with Zach's personal brand of crazy), and I cannot wait for this epilogue. :) Thanks for sharing.

er, it's late and I'm sleep deprived, so I'm sorry if this makes very little sense

Haha, now that it's not the middle of the night and everything is posted: I'm so glad you came to enjoy it! I wanted to write something totally different and it's such a relief to have done it well enough that I didn't like, DRIVE EVERYONE AWAY.

Anyway, anyway. Thank you for sticking with it! Hope it was worth it!

I LOVED this! LOVED IT! This entire series was perfect but I kept wondering how you were going to wrap it up. And you did it brilliantly!

The Zach you wrote is a little bit annoying (I mean that lovingly) and I got a kick out of the fact that Jesse really didn't mind! The exchange about the Emmy. You know, this one:

"It's just," Zach says with the heaviest sigh he can heave. "This is around the point when guys I date stop calling and are suddenly busy all the time, due to the weird career boost they get once they've been seen out with me. So."

Jesse drops his hand from Zach's shoulder and crosses his arms over his chest.

"That is so… unbelievably insulting," Jesse says, which surprises Zach.

"Yeah, I know, but guys in LA are sometimes --"

"I mean insulting to me, you fuck," Jesse interrupts. "I'm thirty-five years old and have been working my ass off my entire life to get here, but suddenly you come along, I get an Emmy nom, and you're the one I have to thank?"made me cringe! ZACH! OH MY GOD ( ... )

GOD OKAY yeah this Zach is annoying (even if he's grown on me) and I mostly blame the super close up his butt POV? I've been trying to finish reading Emma for like, months now, and I CAN'T because the book is all in her head and she's -- frankly, she's a fucking idiot. It's excellent how well a world can be constructed inside a character's head, but getting to know a figure that up close and personal definitely leads to familiarity with their worst aspects and their best -- mostly their worst or where's the fun? So. Yeah. It's a side effect of this being Zach's story from Zach's eyes processed by Zach's brain, and Zach is fucking broken and crazy but hopefully, yes, still lovable ( ... )

OH MY GOD! SUPER-DUPER YES to JTF getting spun around on MF! I loved that moment so much. I can't even stand it! (Did I read that the show is taking some flak for Cameron and Mitchell not being affectionate towards each other? I hope that gets better! They are so adorable!)

Thanks again for the fic! And thank you(!) for introducing me to MF!

Oh, yeah, there were some complaints at the end of the season that they had never kissed and rarely acted like a sexual couple, which the writers and actors have brushed off as 'WELL DUH, THEY'RE NEW PARENTS AND CRAZY', but apparently there's an ep in the works that deals with Mitchell's Problems with PDA? Like, why he didn't kiss Cam in the airport last season at a big reunion scene. Like, I wouldn't mind a kiss or two here and there, but it sounds like there's a Plan so I'm looking forward to that! UH LONG COMMENT IS LONG.

OMG WATCH ALL OF MF. THEY'RE ALL AMAZING. ALL SO GOOD. AAAAAH.

The dance scene was so interesting, because it was this snapshot of their relationship, Zach being all over the place, questioning everything but laughing the whole time, and Jesse being sweet and funny and trying to show him how to move through it all.

Yup! I mean, not that I sat down and was like, CUE METAPHOR, but these things are expressed in like, base physicality, you know? Which is the wrong phrase for it but like. Everything they say has a root in who they are and that comes out in moments like these, too, that are rooted in the non-verbal. So. YAY.
