DEAR YULETIDE WRITER

Oct 15, 2012 18:42

hi there, yuletide writer!
Hello! Thanks so much for participating in Yuletide! Ok that sounds like a "welcome to murderhouse" thing to say, but Yuletide is amazing and my favorite fandom challenge, so I'm glad we're in this together, haha. I'm so excited to read whatever you end up writing.

So I requested these fandoms because I love the worlds they're written in and any story written in them is guaranteed to be amazing. In my fic-reading habits, I'll read pretty much anything, but I especially love:
  • character studies;
  • slice-of-life;
  • stories that are light on plot and heavy on banter and hilarious dialogue;
  • and, as my friend oliveoyl pointed out, i very much prefer "characters to feel like they're written in the spirit of canon."
Not so cool with unjustified character bashing, slut-shaming, non-con.

and here are the requests!
Marvel/Avengers RPF: Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner
Optional details: Anything as long as it's fun. And feel free to feature any/everyone in the cast because I LOVE THIS FANDOM.
Explanation: I... don't even know how to talk about this prompt. They are insanely gorgeous people who are hilarious together and have been friends forever (see: Renner recounting how they met). Sooooo, I'll take anything: their messy epic friendship through the years, or their messy epic on-again/off-again thing through the years, or Avengers press tour hijinks, or a lazy platonic Saturday, or a lazy romantic Saturday, or an ensemble piece that vaguely revolves around them, or ANYTHING, REALLY ANYTHING? They are weirdoes and I want to see more of these weirdoes and also their totally weirdo castmates.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969): Butch Cassidy, The Sundance Kid, Etta Place
Optional details: OT3, please!
Explanation: I'd love the story of those throwaway lines in the movie:
Etta: Butch?
Butch: Hmm.
Etta: Do you ever wonder if I'd met you first, we'd be the ones to get involved?
Butch: But we are involved, Etta. Don't you know that? I mean you are riding on my bicycle - in some Arabian countries that's the same as being married.
Like, the whole point is that it explains everything and nothing so as to leave you wondering and curious, so I'd love to see some version of their relationship. Doesn't have to be the beginning or how the three of them came to their understanding, but some new take on their whole relationship would be interesting to read.

Lion in Winter (1968): Philip/Richard
Optional details: NOW WITH A STRONG HELPING OF MELODRAMATIC MONOLOGUES? YES?
Explanation: What I love the most about The Lion in Winter is the total lack of subtlety, and how 95% of the movie is blatant monologuing by a giant cast of hams. A quiet love affair featuring sex and snappy yet insanely long monologues would be fantastic.

Midnight in Paris (2011): Zelda/Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway
Optional details: Suppose Gil actually slipped back into the 1920s and interacted with the expatriates (Hemingway, the Fitzgeralds, Stein) during the course of the movie. What if some of the expatriates slipped forward and interacted with Gil after the events of the movie? Or generally, I'd love to see more of the Fitzgeralds and Hemingway.
Explanation: So this was like, a prompt! What the fuck! It's just a prompt/suggestion; the Fitzgeralds and Hemingway were my favorite part of the movie and I'd love to see more insane, highly-stylized banter from all of them. Plot is optional, style essential. Seriously, they could just sit in a bar and drink and smoke while talking about books and I would probably burst into tears of joy.

Soooo I hope this is helpful? I hope you have fun writing!

2011 letter

And here's this image again because ugh I loved this book as a kid and don't want to forget:
