Now I will put on my know-it-all hat and tell you what makes women beautiful. I've been thinking about beauty more over the last two years since I first tried taking hot photos of women. Here are some ideas I've had ( Read more... )

It's interesting that you mention the stranger. I've found that sometimes, previously bland seeming people begin to seem beautiful once you actually befriend them. And they can lapse in and out of seeming attractiveness randomly. Like, I am often trapped in tedious meetings at work, and I look around at coworkers and if I'm a bit grumpy at someone, I notice their weird facial quirks and they look freakish, but if I am in a good mood toward them, then I think, "She/he is quite attractive." Also, lately, in our work Mii frenzy, we're all discussing the shapes of our noses, mouths, and eyes. Food for thought. P.S. I have an extra pawpad.

It's funny, my particular recipe for attraction is more or less this, plus a dash of ugly. A slightly beakish nose, a forehead wrinkle that's perpetually furrowed, someone who's a little too big or too small. It's that extra step that makes it accessible to me, and that's important since I'm completely jaded by overexposure to "conventional" beauty.

I think not so much about what makes someone physically beautiful, but very much about why we care so much. I still don't have an adequate answer.

Also, I agree with your assessment.

my raw un-examined thought of the now:
For me, there's something about the mouth that triggers "beauty" in my mind. Not sure what it is exactly. My gut is to say smiles = beautiful, but that may just be in person. Photos of non-smiling people can be beautiful too.

I tend not to wear my glasses and I have terrible face recognition. I find people attractive by the way they carry themselves (confident) and how they're dressed (anything non-bland). Then it's all about the eyes.
