Up the steep and very narrow stairway
Weekly development of Painting #1 for my painting class. The theme is "Vanitas versus Indulgence." Essentially, it should focus on death, greed, or both. Done in oil pants on canvas, stretched over a stretcher I build myself (and wished I hadn't). The pictures are craptacular, but what can you do.
2 Weeks Ago:
The underpainting is the initial application of paint. Usually, it has no color, and it determines the composition and full range of tonality (the shading and highlighting). Mine did none of these things.
1 Week Ago:
As you can see, I only really left the negative space (background) the same. Everything else is whack.
