Yuletide nominations

Aug 29, 2013 19:20

I truly can't believe that September is almost here. Where did the summer go? No, no, really, where did 2013 go? I feel like I slept through it. But, hey, September does mean that Yuletide nominations are on the horizon. And this year...I have no idea what to nominate. Hm ( Read more... )

Yay! I'm glad you're contemplating doing it. I love Yuletide and look forward to it all year. I really think you'll have a ball with it.

I don't think hockey RPF is eligible? Or maybe it depends on the pairing.

Oooh, that's a good question! I would assume - sadly - that they'll count all pairings as part of the fandom and thus the whole thing as not eligible, but you never know!

Someone else mentioned that it wasn't eligible last year, and since it's only gotten larger since then...probably not. But women's hockey will probably be eligible. I was just reading an awesome primer about women hockey players, so maybe I'll nominate that.

Ooooh, YES! You totally should, that would be awesome. ♥__________♥ (I already asked this on Twitter, but seriously, is there a hockey fic fest that focuses on ladies - actual or genderswapped, whatever - called Too Many Men On The Ice, and if not, WHY NOT?) (Because it's a terrible joke doesn't count.)

Last year Hockey RPF was ineligible, I believe, and it's only gotten more popular in the meantime. Women's hockey specifically might be eligible (Women's soccer was eligible last year, when Football RPF wasn't, iirc).

I have no idea what I'm nominating this year. Usually I keep a list over the course of the year, but it's been such a scattered year... So You Think You Can Dance RPF, maybe. Perhaps the October Daye books by Seanan McGuire. Quite possibly one or more of my requests from last year (Gosford Park, Lost Coastlines (Song), The Tricksters - Margaret Mahy). Bunheads, Goon, and Brick are also all strong possibilities, though they have more of a chance of being nominated by someone else, I think.

Thank you for the info on hockey eligibility! I suspected as much. I was just reading an awesome primer on women's hockey, so maybe I'll nominate it.

You have a lot of good possibilities for what to nominate. I really need to start keeping a list too. I know there are things I was interested in, but I'm totally drawing a blank. Oh my poor sad brain!

I think Rock Of Ages (movie) will be a perennial Yuletide nomination/request for me for a while. There's so many possibilities for it!

Some kind of Henry Cavill RPF - The Tudors maybe, or Man Of Steel or even Immortals (cheesy movie, hot cast).

Whatever I don't get written for jukebox_fest - song canons are so much fun and also something terribly easy to pick up in case inspiration dries up for another request and I'll probably nominate a couple of my requests from there because I think there's a lot of potential.

Musician RPF might happen also.

These are good choices! Any specific musician RPF you're considering?

Mostly older ones - Rolling Stones, David Bowie (I don't think either are too big for Yuletide though I'll need to check on Bowie to be sure), maybe Velvet Underground though I got a lovely story from that fandom a few years back. Still, I do love it.

I'll also definitely be offering Revenge again if it's an option as well. I don't think it's too big at this point. It's actually a canon I'd prefer to write for rather than get fic for, weirdly enough.

So apparently there are all sorts of revisions to the nominating process this year? Since I don't write I tend not to nominate things, but there are two fandoms this year that I think deserve to be in there so much and I'm hoping someone will cover them. One of them is The Rifter series, which is just CRYING out for a fandom, and the other is the Thrilling Adventure Hour, which has a lot of following but not among people who tend to write it. I'm hoping to see them pop up on the list from people who will be participating!

The Yuletide mods did rescind the new two nominations rule, so that's a relief. I know I'm going to nominate women's hockey RPF and Woman On The Edge of Time. If I can't think of anything else I want to request, I will nominate one of your fandoms!
