Switcheroo #2 and other issues

Mar 13, 2008 10:48

First off, please make sure that your journals are backed up - here I am referring to SI Main. We are going to be working on the switcheroo over the next couple of days and hopefully we will be up and running again soon!

Secondly and perhaps most importantly DO NOT GIVE OUT INVITATION CODES. The site is not open to the public. Just because you ( Read more... )

Hi, does this mean that when everything is set up we'll all need to recreate our journals again? or are the journals over on scribblit just being transfered from that server onto beta.scribblit? i have an early contributor account which is why im wondering :) Thanks for reading!

Everything is being transferred, you won't have to recreate your journal.

Good thing :) I haven't really used my journal (I am yvi) because of server troubles and RL stuff, so I appreciate not having to recreate it.

Unrelated: do you have any idea when rename codes will be available, and how much they'll be?

Not at the moment, no. All beta testers however, get one free rename.

If you have sent out invitation codes you can inform those people that their accounts will be deleted and purged and they can recreate them when the site is live.

what journals are you purging, ones made in the past few days or? i have had a journal set up there for months and i don't want to lose it. i hope you don't take all of them, that's kind of drastic. freezing invites should be enough.

Only accounts that have been created that should not have been. When you say you have had a journal set up for months do you mean you are a beta tester or you donated? If so then your account will not be removed.

no, i recieved a code from a tester back in january and only made a few journals for myself. i've been waiting for it to become public to invite any of my friends for fear of losing my journals. now i have to fear losing it because someone else made a mistake. can i donate to KEEP my journals, send in a donation and put what journals i don't want you to purge, or will this just red flag you and tell you what ones to purge. i really don't want to lose what i've put into this site because one person fucked it up.

Send me an email with your journal names and the beta tester who sent you the code.

Yeah just freeze invites please don't purge any journals. I don't want to lose any I've had set up for months or even one I made two days ago that I want to use once we're able to update again.

I'm sorry but any accounts that have been created without my express permission will be removed. There is a reason the site is not live yet.

any created after a certain date? can you be more specific? this is really fucked up and i'm not afraid to say it. i was looking forward to this site being different than every other one but if you purge hundreds of journals you'll lose my support and several other people's. people have writings there, people establish themselves, they want to be able to have a place to write that will be there when they wake up in the morning. this site was safe, it was dependable despite how long it's taking to open. now you're ruining that. you would be smart to just freeze account creation and leave well enough alone. you never said anywhere for people not to invite, and the line even says "Invite Friends", one idiot inviting every one of their friends should not ruin it for us all. and you shouldn't let it ruin your site.

I have clarified below but allow me to comment here as well. I have said over and over again that the site is not open to the public and an announcement would be made when it is. Common sense would suggest that users do not invite people to join the site - at minimum they would at least ask the site admin (ie ME) before doing so.

and isnt it close to being public anyway? wasn't it supposed to become public back in january? i think deleting accounts/journals people have set up will turn people off from the site the way it has with commiejournal.com

It was supposed to go public in january however we have had continued server problems. Once we get everything set up on the new server we will have to go through testing again before we can open it to the public.

then why not leave it be, if you're opening it in a week or two just leave the site how it is. i do not want to have to make an update about how ridiculous this site is when for months every one of my friends has been looking forward to it opening. i don't want to say how you're just like every other site, how you're taking away journals, being careless about the time and effort put into them. if you didn't want invites to get out you should have given each beta tester ONE invite to make an extra journal for themselves and that was it. but invites got out, and yes i was one of them, i do not want to lose my account that i've had for months because some idiot ruins it by telling you she sent out invites in march. i put a lot into the journal, i wrote personal updates in it because i felt like it would be around for longer than any other site i could have put them in. i felt like scribblit was better than any other site. i think if you want to be fair either just freeze invitations or purge accounts made after a certain date in feb or ( ... )

Please do not tell me how to run this site. I have been trying to get this up and running for almost a year. Also, no where did I say that I'm opening in a week or two. I did say that once it is set up on the new server we have to go through the testing again. We also have to get the non-functioning parts of the site functioning.

Should things have happened differently? Certainly. But the fact of the matter is, people should not have been sending out invitations - beta testers have been told that the site is not open to the public as have those who have donated to get accounts. Common sense would dictate that invitations should not be sent out.

you should be focusing your time on something more important like figuring out the server bullshit so the site can just be open already.
Excuse me but we are trying to figure out the server "bullshit". If you would like to try getting this site up and running then I invite you to volunteer or hell, do it yourself. Your attitude is not helping things.
