So tired as she pulls up to his apartment, the cold gone right through her, sapping her strength thoroughly, and even her bones are cold.
In the fading winter light, now gone grey and purple, he watches her steadily, seriously.
“Better?” he says, nodding at her head.
“Yes,” she says, because she is, but still. The hat is red, lined with something furry. She thinks she might sleep in it.
“More…tea?” he says, and she thinks about maybe stopping on her way home. And she thinks about a hot shower, and her own bed.
“Why…don’t you come up?” he says.
She does.
