They’re on their way to an interview when it hits them: the people, the music, the noise.
“Chinese New Year. Parade.” Bobby grins, pleased.
She stands on her tiptoes, cranes her neck, jumps, but she’s too goddamn short.
“What are you doing?” he asks.
“I can’t see,” she says.
He gazes at her, then suddenly falls on one knee, grasps her wrists in his hands, pulls her onto his shoulders. Then he stands. She grips the sides of his head with her mittened hands.
“Oh,” she breathes, in spite of herself.
“Better?”
She nods.
She can see the whole, wide world.
