She's been half way across the planet since Raccoon City -- driven through deserts where the sand has covered all signs of civilization and flown across icy tundra into the wilds of Alaska -- and this is the first time since it all started that she can remember it raining.
Alice secures the door behind her. It's a habit she won't break herself of, no matter how many walls are between her and the ravening zombie hordes. The prison walls are thick with cement and steel but she had heard the sounds of rain hitting the roof and rushed up here to see.
Claire and Chris are already standing under the eaves. They're looking out at the rain but they're not quite... Anything, really - not quite standing next to each other, not quite talking, not quite leaning out to feel the water on their skin. Alice steps out onto the roof and turns around to catch the rain on her tongue. She hears a muffled giggle from behind her and she hasn't heard either Redfield laugh so she's not sure if it's the brother or sister. She peeks over her shoulder and pulls a face at both of them.
"Not scared of the relentless death bringing monsters but a little bit of rain..." she teases them both. Chris nudges Claire pushing her out into the rain. She glares at him before taking a step forward. For a second it's like she remembers him, remembers what it's like to be a sibling, but it's a flash and Claire shutters her face before taking a step closer to Alice. Alice watches her take a deep breath and lean her head back to get more rain on her face. The drops run down her cheek and trail down her neck and Alice wants to touch. She grabs Claire's wrist and drags her further out onto the flat roof.
Chris stands watching them as she drags Claire out to skip and circle like children in the rain. Claire glances over her shoulder and gives in to the moment slipping her fingers between Alice's. They dance across the roof and look out. Chris follows, slowly, with his hands in his pockets as if he's not joining in their fun but rather meandering in the same direction. He reaches them as they lean over the railing.
There's another balcony a couple of floors below and she can see Luther and Bennett standing in the door peeking out across the view of Los Angeles. Chris leans onto the balcony and Alice hip checks him. The rain is finally soaking through to her skin and she shivers. She doesn't let go of Claire's hand but she leans into Chris's warmth.
The hordes are still at the gates, the bodies a writhing mass as far as they can see and the rain doesn't seem to do anything but run off the zombies undeterred. As Alice stands, here, high above what Los Angeles used to be, she says, "It's nice that there's something that isn't so affected." Chris nods and Claire squeezes her hand.
