MacIvor rocking out By Glen Schaefer Wed, Dec 2 2009 COMMENTS(0) The Reel Man
Governor-general's award-winning playwright Daniel MacIvor, in Vancouver to direct a production of his play A Beautiful View, will return to his other career in the movies when he heads home to Toronto.
MacIvor, whose screenplays include those for the dramas Wilby Wonderful, Marion Bridge and Past Perfect, has penned a screenplay that his old friend, the gonzo director Bruce McDonald will direct.
"We all met when Bruce wrote Roadkill, his first movie, for a woman he was dating who I went to school with," says MacIvor.
McDonald came to the writer with an idea for a movie about two aging rockers, ex-junkies, who meet again, and MacIvor took it from there.
"It's like My Dinner With Andre for two estranged old rockers," says MacIvor.
They're trying to set up funding for the movie with an eye to filming next year. Sounds like this movie could be a treat for fans who keep pushing for a sequel to McDonald's Hard Core Logo.
Daniel thinks it's still alive. I hope he's right because this is the one I want to be filmed.
