Thankyou! Glad you enjoyed. I take it the Rita is the reason you're surprised to have enjoyed it?

Oh no, she's actually one of my favourite female characters in the book! I love the fact that she's a tough survivor who looks out for number 1 and a great scoop :D (BTW - you wrote her really well and I thought it was wonderful I often like to imagine her as one of those kinds of girls who would be dissed by other girls for being tacky and vowing to show them all how well she can do out of Hogwarts by having a bigshot career when her other female classmates are generally settling down for more low key careers or having a familyI'm surprised because I never thought of Rufus/Rita. Ever. But now it intrigues me because really, they're rather tough guys hey? (Try imagining either of them being fluffy in canon or just in your mind - that's not fake, sarcastic or manipulative!) They could be quite a match in the battle of the sexes. If it wasn't for the fact for character death in DH and the fact that both of these characters would be very stubborn about being shipped, they could be the perfect stars in a fanfic screwball comedy or some ( ... )

Ooh, my bad then *g*. I often get the 'wow, I enjoyed a Rita fic, wtf' thing happening ;). Yaye for fellow Rita fen, though!

And yes, Rita and/or Rufus and 'fluff' would certainly not fit in the same sentence. They're both quite strong and 'nasty' (although I don't know that I think Rufus is nasty for the sake of it, rather that his anger is righteous and because of his power position people automatically dislike him for using his authority). I have another bunny that's DH compliant that I might write as a companion to this piece, which may or may not be entirely 'shippy'. Both characters seem too complicated for a normal relationship, or their attitudes and motivations too different, anyway.

And oh, you should definitely write it, school-aged or otherwise. I'd love to see someone else's take. I don't think it's been done before. *tempts*
