Got the call this morning.  Looks like I'm to be laid off, as is my manager and good personal friend.

Yeah. I've been close personal friends with my boss for over 20 years, and really liked the team I'm currently on. And they paid me well. Unfortunately, the rest of the company is absolutely full of incompetent butt scratching monkeys. It's been really stressful, but now I no longer have to give a crap. My "Give a Shit Capacitor" is shorted to ground with a copper bus-bar. I'm actually looking forward to taking some time to work on my own projects for once.

Fortunately, I'm very hook-nosed and frugal, and have saved up enough of a nest egg that I don't HAVE to work for The Man for a while. I have lots of options at this point. Can't quite retire at my age, but I'm not going to end up on the street any time soon either.
