I saw this at ran's ages ago.
I couldn't see how it could be an optical illusion. There was only one possible way it could be turning.

But this time, reading the text to the left, i discovered that seeing out of just the right side of my right eye, it would switch direction. Then after looking at it directly for a moment, it switches back.

Neat.

I have serious doubts about the "side of the brain" stuff, though :)

I must have missed it on Ran's board. I guess people have many different ways to be able to manipulate the picture. It somehow reminds me of the 3D-pictures with texts behind, but I had always problems to read them while this picture is easier to access.

I'm not sure what exactly the test says about the brain.

It's true that pictures are put together by the brain, but I think you can manipulate or trick the brain a little bit when you find the right technique. I, for example, can not read those magic eye card or books, because I never found a technique to see the text behind. In this case, the figure does not change directions when I look at the torso alone, but when I move the eyes over the whole picture, the effects change.

My brain has been crippled with years of abuse. The dancer is, in fact, doing backflips. ;-)

Saw it clockwise first then anti-clockwise, then both. Personally I think it changes every so often itself. :P
And now I'm feeling sea sick.

Yes, it's the best way. Since the shadow is smaller, your eye and brain can not trick you so much. :)
