I found this short story today, because of a post in feministsf. I don't know how familiar anybody is with this short story, I find it subtly highly amusing.

Edited to remove the euphemism. ^_^  understatement

I want that icon, the one that rolls down the floor of the comment box.

LOL. At first, I didn't understand what icon you meant. But I got it then, and yes, it is fitting. Subtly amusing is a serious understatement. I snickered at "Where was her copy of Ulysses?".

Or Finnegan's Wake. (Though I will maintain to my dying day that Finnegan's Wake was Joyce's version of a trollfic. I seriously think he just wrote it to yank the chains of the critics.)

I guess, I read something similarly in Umberto Ecos, The Reader in the Book, saying the Joyce pojected a reader that does not even exist.

I have not read either of them, but a friend of mine who has studied English has slugged her way through Ulysses. I think Le Guin used "Ulysses", because it is the more topical unread book.

^_^ Take care
