I've been re-watching DS9 from the beginning and took a brief detour into DS9 vids. I also watched a couple of Star Trek 40th anniversary vids that had me turning on the waterworks

Also, although it was cancelled before it had a chance to run its entire course, The Sarah Connor Chronicles would be my personal choice.
And if you modify the science fiction requirement to include fantasy, then, as to "inspired us to dream bigger and work harder for a better tomorrow", obviously, Buffy.

Well, but that's exactly my point -- Farscape, Buffy, Terminator -- these aren't canons that have had much influence in our society other than us loving them fannishly. I mean, the test of time could prove me wrong, and we'll see that Buffy really did inspire a whole new generation of feminist thinking -- even in spite of what Joss has turned out to be.
But what I mean about Star Trek is -- this canon has actually shaped our technology, our science. It had an actual impact on Black society, just with the mere presence of Uhura on a starship bridge.
