So let's talk Christmas music

I know I've cast aspersions on the music of the season in passing, but it's about time I explain to you, my readers, the depth of my loathing for Christmas music. I don't care whether it's children on my doorstep, dogs barking inane winter songs that don't even mention the holiday or the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It all stinks. It's clichéd, ( Read more... )

According to Garrison Keillor, the only thing that can end a performance of "Little Drummer Boy" is a drum solo. (The words "workplace incident" come to mind...)

I find "Drummer Boy" one of the better christmas songs. It tells us that God loves us all equally. Still, everything grows tiresome with repetition, I guess. I'm glad my workplace doesn't kill my Christmas spirit.

(Maybe you could try other versions of the songs? Tennessee Ernie Ford's version of "Drummer Boy" is rather stirring).

I can no longer think of any Christmas song as anything better than "marginally less annoying than the rest of the playlist." At least I can escape at home, thanks to thorough soundproofing. (Otherwise there would be no safe place. Gotta love living in a company town. If commuting was a remotely practical option, I'd be on it like a shot.)

I don't subject my singing to anyone, even during this season.

But hey, it could be worse, like during Halloween where you were required to give away candy as your coworkers trick or treated.

Can you wear headphones in the office - mp3 player/internet radio can be your friend.
