Paul's Medal anonymous August 25 2004, 16:21:44 UTC
The South Korean's routine was incorrectly given a low start value, but it was also incorrectly scored. If the judges had chosen to go back and review the entire rountine they would have found four long holds on the parrell bars (only three are allowed), which would have knocked down his score again. So instead they chose to punish the judges who gave the errorneous start value. Had Paul decided to give the South Korean the medal it would not have changed the records or history only the judges and the committee can do that.

The tapes were reviewed and the 4th long hold deemed n/a. Regardless, Hamm had the opportunityto really make a big impact and emerge as an Olympic great. All he is now is a spoiled brat with a broken toy. Hamm made the performance of his life. He will most likely never be able to repeat it. But his performance has no meaning, when ever his actions are spoken of this situation will be brought up and overshadow it all.

Sometimes, how you win is more important than simply winning.
