Wow. As it lies, there was really no way for the defenders to get a trick, so the only way to guarantee a top was to bid the NT grand.

To be honest, it's that whole looming director thing that really kind of turned me off of competitive bridge. There were moments, but on most nights at the end of the session I couldn't truthfully say it was fun.

And it's not an easy grand to bid. It's 18 opposite 17, which means someone has to show extras. My P did it with 4D. He was interested in slam before I told him I had extras ( ... )

Here's one I actually wanted to run by you. Someone sent me this and I hated his answer

@IMPS, Nobody Vul. 2D is opened on your left. Your P doubles. Pass to you. FWIW, Candy and Marshall are the opps :)

Given that 2NT is a Lebensohl relay to 3C showing a hand that says "You've forced me bid at the three level partner. Thank you ever so freaking much!", what do you bid?

Yes, the drawback of 2NT-3C-PassOut is that you have no guarantee of a fit.

Hint: At the other table the take-out double was passed and thus converted to penalty. which worked well, but only because it was a team game and 2Dx isn't a game contract. It's still risky at IMPs, and unthinkable at MP's so pick another option.

As Alfred Sheinwold used to say, "Probably something unprintable."

Well, I can't say 2S since doubler might only have four. I suppose it's not a complete 0, so I could conceivably say 3C. Obviously the problem is it should be in NT but probably lacks the HCP's to make 3.

Unless there are other relays or such in play, I'd say the least of all evils is 3C. What was the answer you didn't like?
