I've become kind of obsessed with the Tank man lately. Actually, not so much lately, but more like for the last several years. Or more.
I shouldn't have to explain who he is, but for those uninformed, he currently is in the running for having the largest set ever witnessed in the modern world. The tank man(who has never been positively identfied) stood in front of a column of tanks sent by the Chinese army to break up protests in Tieneman square and stopped them-right in their tracks. They tried to go around him, but he stood in their way each time they tried to pass. Alone.
This single act is among the most courageous things recorded in modern history. He did not do it for fame or money, although the fame did come to him-albeit anonymously. He stood up for human decency and reason at a time when it was not popular. For this, most agree that if he was ever identified by the Chinese government he was eventually executed. Strange fate for the most prolific hero in China to be identified by the rest of the world.
THIS MAN HAD(HAS) BALLS
Take a moment today and acknowledge this action-think about it when you think about what you may have done that's worthy of praise and feel unworthy in it's light. We all could only aspire to be half as courageous as this man.
