Copying etc. (Public entry)

It is very late-3:40am-so I apologize in advance if I come off as grumpier than usual, but I am just really irritated with all the character and style "copies" off of me lately ( Read more... )

That stinks, I hate when these little subtle art theif-esque things happen because you can't do anyhing about it.
There was an artist I had to talk to a little while ago, someone I actually considered a friend, because I felt they were getting a little too inspired by my art, I felt they were stealing my ideas and she was just like;
"What are you talking about?" But I just knew they'd looked at my art and taken the ideas even my friend could see but I just couldn't do anything, I felt so helpless.

Hopefully people will read this and realise how much it's bothering you, my characters are very close to me too, I know how it feels.

BTW I'm not one of the artists you're refering to are you? *bites lip*

i'm relatively new to the online art community - hell, my fursona isn't even a year old. i freak out when i see characters with spots under their eyes simply because i'm afraid i've stolen someone's design and not realized it. if i ever draw an x on a character, i promise it'll be you :)

sometimes you just have to hope that's the case. since the x is extremely unique, i would assume it's a blatant rip off. want me to go bite them in the head? cuz i will. rawr.

but seriously, some people just don't understand what art means to others. i really doubt all the little noobs would understand what you're going through, even if you did confront them. but still, it'd probably make you feel better to say something...even if it does start up some crazy online drama ;)

Understandable. IF you care to hear, I'll throw my own opinions into the mix. I pretty much agree with your "philosophy". Yes, as artists, we each get inspired by each other. I think it's GOOD to learn off each other. To teach each other the basics, such as line-arting, anatomy, etc. HOWEVER, once everything is mixed together, then the unique is gone! Being UNIQUE is what makes an artist truly an artist! It's your personal way of doing things, your style, your mind, your personality and your view. Taking that away would just be horrible. Plus, as I've come to notice, one's style also reflects on the person's personal "values" and personality, so I think it really is quite important and shouldn't really be thrown around.

Alas, there are only so many ways to draw eyes, paws, etc. There still should be significant differences, you know? It's pretty grey in this area, though. I'm just not that supportive of copying off certain styles, which is probably why I'm so behind in my...artistic-age gauge.

As for hairstyles, I could understand ( ... )

Great entry Scully, express your opinions don't worry what other people class as art theft.

On an immature note;

'I am known for my characters and the hair is the most notable feature because I came up with it'

AMEN. XD
